Industrial Sewing Machine: Singer 20U33 made portable, like new, Knee Lift, nice wooden I bought this new a few years ago and have used it for 5 or at very most 10 hours. The dealer mounted a standard home-type sewing machine motor on it and mounted the machine in a portable case. I modified the motor drive system by adding a larger pulley for slower speed and better control, and a toothed belt for more power. This is shown in the pictures.

Retsel Mill-Rite Grain & Seed Mill. Its internal precision ground gears operate at a whisper of sound. Possibly the quietest grain mill on the market today. Will grind essentally any combination grains or seeds smaller than 1/2 inch diameter. The grinding heads will disengage when left unattended or when all grain is used up. This machine is pre-lubricated and designed for years of trouble-free operation with minimum of maintenance required. With just a turn of the adjustment knob, the milling grade is completely adjustable from fine flour to course cereal. The self cleaning stones or steel wheels produce 1 to 1.5 cups of fine flour per minute. Coarse grinding is much faster. A standard 3-quart seed hopper is included. Steel, powdercoated manual handle for hand included and can be used in the event of a power outage or in remote locations. This model comes with both stone and stainless steel grinding heads. Stainless steel grinding wheels will grind many grains or seeds that will either plug up the stones or otherwise will not grind sucessfully using conventional high speed mills. Stainless steel wheels will effectively grind small nuts, berries, soybeans, field corn (not popcorn) and many other difficult to grind grains.

Gearing is built into the mill to reduce the 1725RPM motor speed to 43RPM millstone speed. The proven technique of a slow turning milling stone was used for many centuries. Along came the principle of grinding the grain with the use of pressure between two stones, crushing and pulverizing the grain as it was fed between and through the milling chamber. Back then a different type of flour was obtained from this milling process than in today's high tech processing plants. Prior of the modern processing age, the skin or bran of the grain along with the rest of the kernel, came out of the mill in a fake-type flour, being flat like a leaf. (In high-speed mills, these small particles are in the form of chunks or more likely dust.) The flake type flour is very "soft" to the feel, and when moisture is applied it absorbs completely and very rapidly. It also came apparent that lower temperature in the milling chamber, which is due to less speed and friction compared to the high speed ground flours is also very beneficial to the overall makeup of the whole wheat flour. Finally, a perfect stone face alignment is also an absolute must on all mills to get a adjustable fine flour of your choice.

This mill was purchased about 20 years ago and used occasionally for 3 or 4 years. It has been in storage since. This particular mill model came with no motor, enabling it to be powered by other means than an electric motor, such as bicycle pedal chain drive for use where there is no electricity. We added the 1/2HP, 115/230 volt continuous-duty thermally protected motor. (The current Mill-Rite comes with a 1/4HP motor.) Pictures: Pic1, Pic2, Pic3, Pic4, Pic5
